Draw Interior

Draw Interior is used for internal walls and room separations. Interior lines can also form shapes automatically when drawn as a closed loop.

Choosing Interior Mode & Color

Interior is selected from the same draw mode dropdown used by Exterior and Free Form. The color you choose will apply to new interior lines.

  1. 1. Open the draw mode menu.
In the top toolbar, click the Draw Mode button.
  2. 2. Select “Interior”.
In the dropdown list, choose Interior so new segments are treated as interior lines.
  3. 3. Pick a line color.
Use the Color option in the same menu:
    • The color defaults to the last one you selected.
    • Change it if you prefer a different color for interior walls.

Drawing Interior Lines

Interior lines work like exterior lines but are typically used inside the structure to divide spaces into rooms, hallways, and other areas.

  1. 1. Start an interior wall.
Move the cursor to where the interior wall begins and click once to start the line.
  2. 2. Watch the live length label.
While moving the cursor, the line length is displayed as you draw, so you can match a target measurement.
  3. 3. Set the end point.
Click again where the wall should end. A labelled interior line segment is created between the two points.
  4. 4. Continue dividing the space.
Repeat to add additional interior walls and room boundaries throughout the sketch.

Creating Shapes with Interior Lines

Just like exterior lines, interior lines can automatically form a shape when you connect them into a closed loop.

  • Draw interior segments so their endpoints meet and form a closed boundary.
  • When the last segment closes the loop, ApProsal recognizes the area as a shape (room or section).
  • You can then adjust that shape using Select/Edit Shapes and save it as an area type if needed.

Mixing interior and exterior lines in a closed loop can also form a shape, as long as all the endpoints connect.

Extending & Adjusting Interior Lines

If you need to lengthen, shorten, or reposition an interior wall, you can adjust its endpoints directly.

  1. 1. Select the interior line.
Use the Pointer tool and click the line you want to change.
  2. 2. Drag one of the ends.
Click and drag either endpoint to extend the wall, shorten it, or shift where it connects.
  3. 3. Confirm measurements.
The length label will update, so you can confirm the new measurement visually.
