Select/Edit Shapes

Select/Edit Shapes lets you change the appearance and details of shapes and lines in your sketch using the Properties panel. Although the title says “Shapes,” these tools apply to both areas (shapes) and individual lines.

Opening the Properties Panel

To edit any shape or line, first select it, then open the Properties panel. You can do this either directly from the object or from the bottom-right Properties button.

  1. 1. Select a shape or line.
Use the Pointer tool and click the area (shape) or line you want to edit.
  2. 2. Open Properties.
You can open the Properties panel in either of these ways:
    • Click the properties icon that appears near the selected shape/line, or
    • Click the Properties button in the bottom-right footer.
  3. 3. Properties panel appears.
A panel slides in on the right showing details for the current selection:
    • Selected Area when a shape/area is selected.
    • Selected Lines when a line is selected.

Editing Shapes (Areas)

When a shape (area) is selected, the Properties panel shows a Selected Area section where you can control labels, line color, fill, and line style. Changes you make here are applied immediately to the selected shape.

Shape Properties

  • Overall Label
A text field used to label the entire area (for example, “Living Room” or “Garage”). This label can appear on or near the shape in the sketch.
  • Line Color
A color picker that controls the outline color of the shape. Choose a color to visually distinguish this area from others.
  • Fill Color
A color picker that controls the interior fill color of the shape. Use this to highlight or categorize areas.
  • Line Style
A dropdown to control how the outline is drawn:
    • Solid – standard continuous outline.
    • Dashed – dashed outline, often used for non-permanent or reference boundaries.
    • Dotted – dotted outline for special cases or alternate representation.

Saving a Shape as an Area Type

Once you’ve configured a shape the way you like it, you can save it as a reusable area type.

  1. Select the shape you want to reuse as a template.
  2. Open the Properties panel for that shape.
  3. Adjust label, colors, and line style as needed.
  4. Click + Save Selected Area at the bottom of the Properties panel.

This adds the current shape configuration to your Saved Area Types under Area Types. You can then quickly reuse this configuration when drawing future areas.

Editing Lines

When a line is selected, the Properties panel shows a Selected Lines section. Here you can adjust the line’s start and end points, type, label, color, and style.

Line Position & Type

  • Start
Two numeric fields for the X and Y coordinates of the line’s starting point. Changing these values moves where the line begins.
  • End
Two numeric fields for the X and Y coordinates of the line’s ending point. Changing these values moves where the line ends.
  • Type
A dropdown to classify the line:
    • Exterior – usually used for outer walls or property boundaries.
    • Interior – usually used for internal walls and partitions.
This can affect how the line is treated visually and logically within the sketch.

Line Label, Color & Style

  • Label
A text field for the line’s label (for example, the measured length such as “16.03 ft”). You can adjust this text if you need a different display value.
  • Line Color
A color picker for the line’s stroke color. Use this to differentiate certain walls or measurement lines.
  • Line Style
A dropdown that controls how the line is drawn:
    • Solid – continuous line.
    • Dashed – dashed line.
    • Dotted – dotted line.

Note

Changes to line coordinates and type affect how the line appears and where it connects in the sketch. If you move line endpoints via the Properties panel, make sure they still align correctly with neighboring lines and shapes.

Curving a Line

  • When a line is selected, a blue dot appears at the center of the line.
  • Click and drag this blue dot in or out to curve the line, creating an arc instead of a straight segment.
  • As you adjust the curve, a line and label at the center show the length of the curved segment, so you can keep track of the measurement while shaping the curve.

Curved lines behave like other lines in the sketch—you can still adjust their properties and labels in the Properties panel after shaping them.

Resizing & Rotating Shapes and Lines

When a shape or line is selected, you can resize and rotate it directly on the canvas using the handles that appear around it.

Resizing

  1. Select the shape or line using the Pointer tool.
  2. When selected, four small dots (resize handles) appear around the shape or at key points.
  3. Click and drag any of these dots to resize:
    • Drag outward to make the shape larger.
    • Drag inward to make it smaller.
    • For lines, dragging an endpoint will lengthen, shorten, or reposition the segment.

Rotating

  1. Select the shape or line so its handles and rotation control appear.
  2. Click the rotate arrow icon attached to the selection (usually just outside the shape).
  3. While holding the mouse button, move the cursor around the shape to rotate it to the desired angle.
  4. Release the mouse when the shape or line is at the orientation you want.

Rotation changes the orientation but does not change the underlying measurements; use with care if exact alignments are required.

Working Efficiently with Properties

The Properties panel is designed for quick adjustments without leaving the sketch.

  • Use the Pointer tool to select an object, open Properties, adjust, then click back on the canvas to continue drawing.
  • Save frequently used area configurations with + Save Selected Area so you can reapply them quickly via Area Types.
  • Use line color and style consistently (for example, solid for structural walls, dashed for proposed changes) to keep sketches easy to interpret.
  • Combine resize, rotate, and curve adjustments with the Properties panel for fine-tuned control over both geometry and appearance.
