Free Form Draw

Free Form Draw gives you flexibility for non-standard lines and shapes that don’t need live measurements displayed while drawing. You can still adjust endpoints and appearance after the fact using the standard tools.

Choosing Free Form Mode & Color

Free Form is selected from the same draw mode dropdown used for Exterior and Interior, and uses the same color selection behavior.

  1. 1. Open the draw mode menu.
Click the Draw Mode button in the top toolbar.
  2. 2. Select “Free Form”.
In the dropdown list, choose Free Form to enable flexible, custom drawing.
  3. 3. Confirm or change the color.
    Use the Color option:
    • By default, the color is whatever you last selected.
    • Change it if you want a distinct color for free form elements.

Drawing with Free Form

Free Form can be used for irregular edges, notes, reference lines, or any shapes that don’t need live length feedback like Exterior and Interior modes provide.

  1. 1. Start a free form segment.
Click on the canvas where you want the stroke or segment to begin.
  2. 2. Move the cursor to define the shape.
Drag or move the mouse to trace the desired path or edge. In Free Form mode, no live length label is shown while drawing.
  3. 3. Finish the segment.
Click again (or release, depending on the interaction) to finish that portion of the free form drawing. Repeat as needed to build up the custom detail.

If you need precise measured segments with live lengths, use Exterior or Interior modes instead.

Extending & Editing Free Form Elements

Free form segments can be adjusted using the same selection and endpoint dragging behavior as other lines.

  1. 1. Select the free form segment.
Use the Pointer tool and click the free form element you want to edit.
  2. 2. Drag an endpoint or handle.
Click and drag one of the visible endpoints or resize handles (if available) to extend, shorten, or reposition the segment.
  3. 3. Refine via Properties (optional).
If you need more control (line style, color, label when applicable), open the Properties panel and adjust the element similar to any other line or shape.

When to Use Free Form vs Exterior/Interior

The three drawing modes share common tools (color selection, pointer selection, properties), but are best suited to different tasks:

  • Exterior – outside walls, building footprint, lot boundaries.
Shows live line length while drawing.
  • Interior – room divisions, hallways, closets, inner walls.
Shows live line length while drawing.
  • Free Form – unusual edges, notes, reference lines, or any custom detail.
Does not show live line length while drawing, and is intended more for visual reference than precise measurement entry.

All modes can be edited later using Select/Edit Shapes and the Properties panel. For exact measured geometry, prefer Exterior and Interior modes; use Free Form for flexible annotation and irregular details.
