Insert Existing Sketch

Insert Existing Sketch lets you reuse a full sketch from the current project inside another sketch. This is useful for sharing common layouts, repeating units, or reusing prior work as a starting point.

How Insert Existing Sketch Works

When you use Insert Existing Sketch, ApProsal shows a searchable list of all sketches in the current project. You choose one, and that sketch is inserted in its entirety into the sketch you are currently editing.

  • Only sketches from the same project are available to insert.
  • The inserted content includes the entire sketch layout (areas, lines, and symbols).
  • The original source sketch remains unchanged.
  • After insertion, the copied sketch can be edited like any other part of the current sketch.

Opening the Insert Existing Sketch Picker

The Insert Existing Sketch action is available from the main sketch toolbar.

  1. 1. Open the sketch you are working on.
Start in the sketch where you want to place another sketch.
  2. 2. Click “Insert Existing Sketch”.
Use the toolbar button for Insert Existing Sketch (pencil/ruler icon) to open the picker.
  3. 3. View the sketch list for this project.
A panel appears showing all sketches in the current project, ready to search and select from.

Selecting a Sketch to Insert

Use the list and search tools to quickly locate the sketch you want to reuse.

Searching the Sketch List

  • Browse the list of sketches belonging to the current project.
  • Use the search box (if available) to filter by name or other identifying text.
  • Scroll as needed to review all available sketches.

Insert the Selected Sketch

  1. Click the sketch you want to insert from the list.
  2. Confirm the selection if prompted.
  3. The chosen sketch is inserted in its entirety into the current sketch canvas.

The operation copies the sketch contents into your current sketch; it does not delete, replace, or modify the original source sketch.

Editing the Inserted Sketch Content

After insertion, the imported sketch behaves like part of your current drawing and can be edited using all normal tools.

  • Use Select/Edit Shapes to adjust areas, lines, labels, and colors.
  • Resize or move sections as needed using the pointer and properties tools.
  • Add additional symbols, notes (labels), or shapes on top of the inserted layout.
  • Combine multiple inserted sketches if your project needs repeated units or floors.

Any changes you make affect only the current sketch. The original sketch you inserted from remains available unchanged, and can be reused again later if needed.
